Tzatziki: the ultimate latke topping

By | December 27, 2011

Did we really just light the eighth candle?

I mean, I know we did, but…really? Already?

I hope you’re still making latkes. I didn’t exaggerate when I wrote this post title — tzatziki really is the best-ever latke topping.

This assumes, of course, that you like sour cream. After all, tzatziki is just glorified sour cream.

The grated cucumber gives this dip a cool, refreshing quality. The scallions and fresh garlic jazz it up. And the dill is the perfect finish. (If you have it in you to check fresh dill, go for it. I usually don’t and just use dried. Still great.)

Whether you prefer regular potato latkes, sweet potato latkes, or even carrot & beet latkes, tzatziki is a winner.

Don’t waste any time now. The candles are burning.

They’re part of a set of five that was a an engagement gift from friends of my parents (in Maryland). They barely know me but really hit the nail on the head with that one.

Would plain Greek yogurt in lieu of sour cream?

Never tried this myself, but apparently that’s the best substitute.
